AR Reading has started. Please remind your child to take reading tests when they are finished reading a book. Our class goal is for every student to get their Gold Eagle!  Your child may come in the mornings at 8:30am to take tests.

The “Book in the Bag” Reading Program is going great.  Your child needs to read their book in the bag every night and return it the next day to school.  Some books will take longer than one night.

Important:
Fall Break Oct 17th-21st.  No school this Friday, Thursday or the following Monday.  Please continue to have your child read on all of those days.  Also, have your child get on my blog and do Reading Horizons when they get a chance.

I also have a new math link on my blog. IXL math offers great math practice.

Red Ribbon Week is Oct 22nd-25th.

The next AR Assembly is Oct. 25th at 2:00pm.  Ask your child which Eagle(S) they will be receiving.  The 5th grade is putting on the program.

Parent helpers :
Mondays at 10:30: Mrs. Coronado, Mrs. Webster, SUU student
Tuesdays at 10:30: SUU students will be presenting art/science/reading during this time for the next five weeks.
Thursdays at 10:30:  Mrs. Eye
Fridays at 10:30: Mr. Hirschi

Reading:  Every child should have a library book at home that they are reading in for at least 20 minutes each night.  This book should be at a reading level that is comfortable for them.  If the book is too hard or too easy please let me  know.  We have also started Literature Circles in our classroom.  For a 1/2 hour each day they are reading in a group with students on their same reading levels.  Then they do various activities to enhance their comprehension of the book.

Math:  We are finishing graphing this week.  When we get back from the break we go into grouping to prepare for multiplication.

Writing:  We are constantly writing each and every day.  The students are writing stories, poems, keeping journals etc. Your child is also learning their home row keys on the computer.  Keyboarding is a huge skill that your child has to master this year.  Whenever you see your child at the computer please remind them of home row keys.

Homework:  This week there is math, reading and spelling.   Please remember to mark on the Reading Calendar how many minutes each day that your child is reading.  Then at the end of the month the reading calendar is due back to school.  The calendar is a big part of your child's grade.  Please help them to take on this responsibility.  Last month every child brought back their Reading Calendar!  Thank you!

Final Note: Thanks for all of your support and help at home.  Have a great week!

Third grade is the Best!

*This is an awesome class*

The “Book in the Bag” Reading Program has started.  Your child needs to read their book in the bag every night and return it the next day to school.  Some books will take longer than one night.

Important:
This week we start our spelling program.  Your child will have a spelling list that is at their level.  Please ask your child about it.

Our class goes to our school library on Mondays.

SEP week is Sept 30- Oct. 4th.  I am so excited to meet with you.  School will be getting out at 2:30pm all that week.

Fall pictures are on Oct. 4th

Parent helpers can start coming this week.
Mondays at 10:30: Mrs. Coronado, Mrs. Webster
Tuesdays at 10:30: Mrs. Eye
Thursdays at 10:30:
Fridays at 10:30: Mr. Hirschi

Important Reminder:  If you need to check your child out of school early you must check them out in the office.  The office will then give you a note to bring to me.  I can then release your child to you.

Math:  We are working on addition, subtraction, and graphs. Also,  please ask your children to look at clocks at your home as often as possible.  They need to understand the concept of time.  They best way to teach them is to give them plenty of opportunities to tell time.  They always ask me what time it is and I say, ” look at the clock and figure it out.”

Writing:  We are constantly writing each and every day.  The students are writing stories, poems, keeping journals etc.

Homework:  This week there is math, reading and spelling.  Also, the September reading calendar.  Please mark on the calendar how many minutes each day that your child is reading.  Then at the end of the month the reading calendar is due back to school.  The calendar is a big part of your child's grade.  Please help them to take on this responsibility.

Final Note:  I am having a great time teaching your child.  We have a wonderful class.  They are a bright bunch of students.  Thanks for all of your support and help at home.  Have a great week!

Welcome to Third Grade!

Stokes’ Super Star News
August 19, 2013
Welcome back to school!  I’m so excited to have the school year started.

The school calendar is online.  I also gave you all one on back to school night.  If you have not filled out all of your childs information pages please do so and send them back to school.  Your child will not be able to start using our computers until their user agreement is filled out.

There will be no school on Labor Day which is on Sept. 2nd.  Have a blast that day with your wonderful child.

Reading:  We our starting our first story in our literature series called Officer Buckle and Gloria.  We will be doing great reading and writing activities with this story.  It will be a fun unit.  We will also start practicing to read faster.  Each child will be placed on their own reading level and be allowed to move at their own pace.  Please have your child read every night and record it on their reading calendar.  The reading calendars will begin Sept 1st.

Spelling:  The first spelling list should be in your child's homework folder.  Please help them to study and learn these words.  Spelling tests will be on Fridays.

Math:  We are reviewing everything that they learned in second grade.  We will also be working on graphing, addition and subtraction.

Science:  We are starting to learn about the sun.  The students are enjoying it.  We will be using the suns heat to cook smores.

Homework:  Every Monday your child will bring home their homework folder filled with that weeks homework.  They must return the folder with the homework completed by Thursday of each week to receive full credit.   Homework will consist of math, reading and spelling.

Final Note:  Remember that on Wednesdays school is out at 1:30 pm.

I am having a wonderful time getting to know each of your children.  This is a fantastic class.  They are all so smart and so well behaved.  I know that this is going to be a great year!  Remember if you ever need to talk to me for any reason, never hesitate to call.  We are a team working together: teacher, parents and child.
